Move beyond guesswork and know why settings change the image.
Turn classroom theory into practical photography skills
Tailored, on-location sessions in Portsmouth that help students understand their camera, develop creative ideas and produce stronger work for their GCSE portfolio.
Help students understand the photography, not just finish the assignment
Many GCSE students understand the brief but need more time using a camera, testing ideas and seeing how technical choices affect the final photograph.
Each session is adapted around the student’s current project, confidence and areas of difficulty. The aim is to build independent understanding they can apply throughout the course.
Turn a theme or starting point into practical photographic ideas.
Create photographs that connect visually and support a clear project direction.
Make creative decisions independently instead of relying on automatic settings.
A clear, supportive learning process
Understand the project
We look at the student’s coursework, ideas and the specific areas where they need support.
Learn through practice
Camera controls and creative techniques are explained while actively taking photographs.
Review the results
We compare images, identify what worked and explain how choices changed the outcome.
Apply it independently
The student leaves with techniques and ideas they can continue using in their own coursework.
A safe, professional environment for every student
I hold a current DBS check. Every participant under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the entire session.
This keeps the workshop transparent and supportive while allowing parents to understand what the student is learning and how they can help afterwards.
Focused tuition built around one student
Sessions are normally around two to three hours and are adapted to the student’s current level, project and goals.
Tell me what they are studying and where they are struggling
Share their current project, experience, equipment and the area where they need the most help. I will suggest the most useful workshop or session plan.
