GCSE Workshop 3: Light & Shadow – Natural Light

Learn to harness natural light for beautifully lit images. We’ll explore golden hour, silhouettes, reflections, and working with contrast — ideal for expressive GCSE work.

About the Workshop

In Workshop 3: Light & Shadow, students learn how light direction, intensity and quality shape the mood of an image. We’ll shoot on location — typically Southsea Beach at golden hour or Spice Island — and practice simple, repeatable techniques for reading and using available light.

This 2–3 hour session helps students create more intentional images — from gentle, reflective tones to bold silhouettes and dramatic shadows.

What will students learn?

  • How to work with natural light in different conditions (golden hour, shade, backlight).
  • Creating silhouettes, managing contrast, and using reflections.
  • Controlling exposure choices for mood and clarity.
  • Practical on-location techniques for consistent results.

Who is this for?

  • GCSE students who want to elevate the look and feel of their images with light.
  • Learners ready to explore the creative potential of natural light.

Small groups (max ~5) keep teaching personal and focused.
